The calling of Timothy to wage war against false doctrine has been established earlier in 1 TImothy Chapter 1. Timothy would come to understand early in his ministry that this calling, as well as a calling to all followers of Christ, would be a lifelong commitment to fight against the evil world system, Satan and his forces, and our own sinful human flesh.
